Community Outreach

Crime Stoppers Dominica is a non-governmental organization that exists to provide a means for the public to provide information that assists in solving or preventing crimes by calling 1-800-TIPS [8477] or submitting a tip online at This information is passed along under an assurance of anonymity of the caller by Crime Stoppers.

Since the inception of the programme, in addition to the number of arrests made, in many cases, matters have been addressed through timely police intervention. There has been an increase in the number of reports received on all types of criminal activity such as domestic abuse and child abuse cases. Crime Stoppers is indeed pleased for the support of the public in coming forward with information.

The organization has employed different marketing approaches in trying to improve its visibility across the island.

One way in which CSD is seeking to achieve this is through focused community events.  Community roll out events have since held in Portsmouth and most recently, Grandbay where the young children were involved in promoting the anti-crime message. It is hoped that a similar promotional approach will be held in Marigot on October 18, 2016 in collaboration with the Marigot Credit Union. Other communities will be targeted in the near future.

In an effort to raise awareness of the programme among the youth, CSD also invited schools to take part in a school’s contest. The prize giving ceremony for winners of the jingle component was held in June 2016. In their jingle entitled “Stop the Crime in Dominica”, the students are encouraging the public to desist from criminal activities such robbery, murder, domestic violence and child abuse.

Crime Stoppers Dominica also seeks to improve its presence within communities, through community meetings in collaboration with the Drug Abuse Prevention Unit as well as the Dominica Council on Ageing. Community meetings are expected to extend across the island in the coming months. In addition to the reporting aspect, we have also sought to place more focus on educating the public on keeping safe.

The public is reminded that Crime Stoppers Dominica undertakes a marketing role to promote our crime prevention and reduction message and so we do not receive any calls in Dominica. Calls are answered by a professionally trained attendant at a call center outside of Dominica.  The attendant will not ask for your name and as such, your identity is fully protected and could never be revealed.  The call is free, it is confidential and there is no caller ID.  The information you provide is electronically transmitted to the Dominica Police who proceeds to take the necessary action.
