Crime Stoppers Dominica (CSD) continues to heighten its visibility in the various communities on the island. CSD, in collaboration with the Marigot Credit Union, held a community roll out event in Marigot on October 18, 2016 to coincide with credit union week.
The event comprised a village walk through lead by students of the Wills Strathmore Stevens Primary School who took the lead in distributing promotional material to residents about CSD. CSD supports the participation of the youth in such activities, which serves as an opportune time to educate them about the consequences of criminal behaviour and encourage them to make informed decisions in their adulthood.
“As we celebrate Credit Union week, it is very opportune that we use this avenue, to help increase the awareness of Crime Stoppers and what it entails in eradicating crime in our society. The Marigot Credit Union takes pride in partnering with Crime Stoppers Dominica to heighten the awareness of the involvement of each individual,” Ag. Manager of the Marigot Credit Union Mrs. Valena Antoine stated.
Chairman of CSD Mr. Stewart Paris reminded those present that CSD is an independent body from Law Enforcement that gives the public an opportunity to report crime without having their identities revealed by calling 1800-8477 or by submitting tips online at crimestoppersdominica.org.
Remarks were also heard by Mr. Kevin Benjamin, National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit; Ms. Tina Alexander addressed those present on the importance of reporting cases of child sexual abuse and Mr. Dwight Bedminster, Manager of Mr. Reliable Security Services provided some pointers on personal safety and security. Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Lennox Linton also addressed those present.
