Monday, May 23, 2016, patrons who turned out to support the Save Our Children Fundraising Concert were enamored by a slew of musical genres in the ambience of the Freewinds Cruise Ship. The audience was graced by a fusion of musical tones from jazz, reggae pop and cadance performed by Michele Henderson, Breve, Jade Leatham, Carlyn Xavier Phillip, Melinda Ulysses and Shalina Samuel. Miriam Alexander and Vynliz Daily wrote and presented a poem drawing attention to the reoccurring apologetic behavior of abusers; a practice which society should renounce.

The concert highlighted the growing problem of child abuse in Dominica and attendees were encouraged to SPEAK UP about the crime through Crime Stoppers Dominica which provides a confidential crime reporting service that gives everyone the opportunity to report crime by calling 1800 8477 or submitting a tip online at  Patrons also observed a moment of silence in remembrance of children who are and have been victims of abuse.

Khin-Sandi Lwin – UNICEF Representative for the Eastern Caribbean and her husband Robert Henri Rogier as well as several members of ChildFund Caribbean representing both regional and national offices also came to support the cause. ChildFund Caribbean was recognized for the ground breaking work initiated over the past 30 years, the results of which are evident and a lot of which are immeasurable.  Crime Stoppers Dominica pledged to collaborate with the Federations in Dominica in working to create a protective environment where children can thrive and be the best that they can be.

The Concert culminated with the rendition of an all popular “Count on Me” lead by Michele Henderson and Carlyn Xavier Phillip in honor of all children who suffer abuse.

Proceeds from the concert will go toward CHANCES which currently houses children who have been victims of psychological, physical or sexual abuse and Crime Stoppers Dominica.

Sponsors for the concert included Marpin 2k4, Q95 FM Radio, Dominica News Online, Vibes Radio, DBS Radio, Kairi FM Radio, DIGICEL, Kai & Vickie’s Kids Charity – Nadezkda Marquez & Victoria Stanton and Zaimis Olmos Visual Arts.
